Brendan is one of the most respected athletes of the modern era. He won an impressive array of championship medals at 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m as well as setting three world records and being UK record holder at five different distances. Since his retirement in 1980, Brendan has remained involved in sport. In 1981 he founded The Great North Run and was for many years a senior member of the BBC athletics commentary team. He was knighted in 2020.
